Jonathan Michael was my great grandfather. He was an immigrant from Germany via Pennsylvania, a cobbler, and the first pioneer citizen of Zanesville, Indiana. I would love to know his thoughts on the fate of his walnut workbench. I thought about him often as the piece evolved.
